Sylvia Watts McKinney Named President & CEO of Thompson Island Outward Bound

The Board of Trustees at Thompson Island Outward Bound has announced the appointment of Sylvia Watts McKinney as its new President and Chief Executive Officer.

McKinney, a seasoned nonprofit leader with over two decades of experience, becomes the first woman and person of color to lead the organization. She brings a strong track record from her previous roles at Summer Search Philadelphia and the Museum of African-American History in Boston.

Her leadership is expected to usher in a new chapter of growth and innovation as Thompson Island Outward Bound continues to partner with Boston Public Schools to provide free experiential learning programs that combine academics, social-emotional growth, and outdoor education.

This milestone marks both a historic moment for the organization and an exciting new opportunity for Boston’s young people.
