Boston schoolchildren take a ferry to Kathleen Stone Island for an immersive Outward Bound experience teaching cooperation, resiliency, and environmental awareness.

The program, active since 1988, serves 6th–8th graders with activities such as obstacle courses, nature science lessons, and team-building challenges.

The island’s name was recently updated in recognition of a $12 million donation from the Stone Family Foundation, supporting new programs for high school students.

Sylvia Watts McKinney, President & CEO, emphasizes how the program benefits extend beyond the outing, students return to school energized, collaborative, and engaged in their communities.
